Storage Guidelines

Please note that some categories of garments are best stored on hangers. Hanging garments that aren't meant to be hung can cause them to stretch and lose their original shape.

Garments to Store on Hangers:

Outerwear:

  • Coats
  • Trench coats
  • Down jackets and coats
  • Blazers / jackets
  • Down vests

Leather and suede

  • Outerwear
  • Blazers / jackets
  • Dresses
  • Trousers
  • Skirts

Delicate garments

  • Velvet
  • Silk
  • Garments with decor

For cashmere coats, fine wool coats, or blazers without shoulder pads, use hangers with wide, sloping shoulders. Thin, straight hangers can cause garments to stretch and the fabric to deform significantly at the shoulders.

Garments to Store Folded:

Do not store knitwear and delicate textiles prone to stretching on hangers.
If a garment has been stored on a hanger and has stretched, you can fix the problem with an ironing board, a good iron with a steamer, and skills in wet-heat treatment to reshape the stretched fabric.
Thick knitwear and coats are easier to reshape, while thin fabrics are more challenging to revive if heavily stretched.
